The Fight againstMalaria
PRESIDENT’S MALARIA INITAITIVE
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of death in Uganda. Particularly dangerous to children under the age of 5 and pregnant women, the infectious blood disease is a constant threat to the lives of millions across Africa. In light of this USAID established the ‘Presidents Malaria Initiative’ which aimed to reduce the number of malaria victims throughout Uganda. RICE-WN was one such partner to partake in the initiative and distributed over 4,800 treated malaria nets in the district of Terago-Maracha. The results: Tara health centre recorded a 37% reduction in paediatric attendances, which was attributed largely to the malaria campaign in the region.
